Almost everyone has encountered ‘religion’ but few have really encountered ‘intimacy’ with the Lord and come ‘face to face’ with His heart. Most know of God or know Him by ‘name’ or may be believe in His existence something where ‘far off’ but not many know Father God ‘up close’. And some people only want to know about God when it ‘suits’ them, like a vending machine - rather than have an ongoing and deep relationship with Him. The thing is… God is not a far off cosmic force, He is a close being that longs to reside in our heart. He longs to ‘know’ us and be ‘known’ by us.

People often get confused when I say I’m a Christian who is very “anti-religious”. See religion is often empty of relationship and creates regulations that are not only ‘damaging’ but is often so contrary to the character of Jesus Christ. Religion is often a list of do’s and don’ts based on the concept of ‘I must work hard to be loved’ rather than a place of knowing “I’m already loved, therefore I live out of a place of love”. I like to explain it this way: When you are dating someone, you don’t choose not to cheat on your partner because it’s the ‘rules of dating’, you choose not to cheat on them because you love them and you don’t want to break your relationship with them. Same with my relationship with Jesus, I don’t choose abstain from certain things or live a certain way because I’m following the rules of religion… I live a certain way because I’m in love with Jesus and don’t want to break or hurt my relationship with Him. That’s the difference between religion and relationship. I don’t support religion, I support an intimate relationship and that’s what Jesus wants with us!

Unlike other songs that often discuss how the Lord pursues our hearts… this song is a response to God’s pursuit of my heart! The Lord wants to be ‘found’ and He has a lot of deep treasure awaiting us if we take the effort to go seeking! An intimate relationship is a 2 way street of 2 lovers pursuing each other and that is the type of relationship the Lord God wants with us! We were created to ‘love and be loved.’

There is always more of God to discover, but you have to leave the shore to find it! This song invites us to ‘Abandon All’ and to jump in the ‘deep’ of Father God’s heart! Jump in and see what you discover!
